A young elephant caused quite a stir when it chased a group of giraffes away from a water hole in Botswana’s Mashatu Game Reserve.
The giraffes had gathered to cool off but were soon spooked by the calf, which rushed toward them unexpectedly. Wildlife photographer Janet Kleyn, 52, captured the dramatic encounter.

“As soon as the elephants emerged from the trees and saw the giraffes at the water, this young elephant started trumpeting and charging at them,” Kleyn explained.
According to Janet, elephants dislike sharing water holes with other animals and often chase them away, especially the younger ones.

While these confrontations are typically harmless, injuries can occur. In this instance, the giraffes fled the scene unscathed.
