Officer Jumper was the first to respond and quickly pinpointed the source of the noise. To everyone’s surprise, the barking was coming from a well lined with rocks, hidden beneath the house’s floorboards.

The rescue team was baffled as to how this well had managed to stay hidden for so long, and even more so by how a dog ended up trapped inside it.

Officer Jumper promptly called for backup, and soon, responders from the Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center and the Longview Fire Department were on the scene.

The situation they faced was challenging: a Basset Hound was stuck nearly 12 feet down in the well. Initially, the team contemplated removing the floorboards to reach the animal, but decided on a safer method instead.

The rescuers designed makeshift slings and coordinated their efforts to carefully lift the dog to safety. After nearly three hours of diligent teamwork, the dog was finally brought to the surface unharmed.

“Thanks to the quick thinking and heroic efforts of our local firefighters and animal control team, the dog was safely brought to the surface, shaken but unharmed,” the Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center expressed in a Facebook update.

Once freed, the dog underwent a thorough examination and was found to be in excellent health, miraculously free from injury.

Named Timmy after the character from the series “Lassie,” due to his ordeal, he was taken to the shelter. As no owner stepped forward, Timmy was put up for adoption.

One firefighter was particularly drawn to Timmy’s gentle demeanor and expressed an interest in adopting him.

“Timmy is doing good and if not reclaimed, one of the firefighters will be adopting him,” commented Kimberly Brown-Brooks, the rescue coordinator.

Unfortunately, due to a conflict with the firefighter’s cats, he wasn’t able to keep Timmy. But soon after, the dog found a loving home with another family who welcomed him with open arms.

Now, Timmy enjoys frolicking in open yards and receiving the love and care he deserves, far from the perilous well that once trapped him.
