In a heartwarming tale from Strathdownie, Western Victoria, Australia, a golden retriever named Asha has become an unexpected hero by saving the life of an abandoned baby koala.
Asha’s owner, Kerry McKinnon, was in for a surprise one morning when her husband called her to witness an unusual sight.

To Kerry’s amazement, she found a tiny koala snuggled atop Asha, seeking warmth from the chilly night temperatures that can drop as low as five °C (41°F).
Despite initially being taken aback, Kerry couldn’t help but laugh at the adorable scene. Asha, confused yet gentle, allowed the baby koala to cuddle into her fur without attempting to shake it off.

The mystery remains as to how the baby koala ended up with Asha. Kerry speculates that the koala, separated from its mother at a young age, sought refuge and warmth on Asha’s back.
Thankfully, Asha’s warmth and protection saved the koala from potential danger, including being preyed upon by foxes.
Separating the inseparable duo proved challenging, as the koala protested vehemently when Kerry attempted to remove it from Asha’s back.

After being checked by a vet, the little koala was entrusted to a local koala carer until it could be safely released back into the wild.
This heartwarming tale showcases the innate protective instinct of dogs and the unlikely yet beautiful friendship that blossomed between a golden retriever and a baby koala, truly capturing the essence of Australian wildlife.
