For Donna Lochmann, saving animals isn’t just an occupation—it’s her passion. As the chief life-saving officer in Missouri, she has devoted her life to rescuing animals in need.
About seven years ago, while Donna was on a mission to find a particular dog, she noticed something unusual in a pile of trash.
Her curiosity led her to stop and take a closer look, which revealed a heartbreaking sight—a dog so scared and frail that it merged into the surrounding debris.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Donna approached the dog cautiously, her voice gentle and reassuring. As she got closer, her heart ached at the pitiful state of the animal.
The dog’s frail body revealed his neglect and suffering, and his lack of response only emphasized his desperate need for help.
Without wasting any time, Donna carefully cradled the dog, feeling the sharpness of his ribs beneath his coat.
She knew he needed immediate medical attention, so she swiftly transported him to Stray Rescue of St. Louis, where the dedicated team was ready to provide necessary care.

Believing in fate, the rescue team fittingly named the dog Kismet, meaning “destiny.” Under the care of a foster mom named Nikki, Kismet’s journey to recovery began.
With proper care and a nurturing environment, he started to gain weight and express joy in small ways.
Nikki shared her joy with the rescue team, exclaiming, “He’s doing wonderfully! He’s gaining weight and has started wagging his tail. He loves to give kisses and enjoys napping on any soft spot he finds. Kismet is truly an amazing dog.”
As time went on, Nikki and her family fell head over heels for Kismet. His gentle and affectionate nature won their hearts and they knew he had become an irreplaceable part of their family. The decision to adopt him was inevitable.

“They officially adopted him and adore him. Look at how well he’s doing! Nikki says he’s the most amazing dog and considers herself the fortunate one,” the rescue team celebrated on Facebook.
Kismet finally found the loving home he deserved. Under Nikki’s care, his life was filled with the happiness he had never known before. Recently, the rescue organization received an inspiring update about Kismet.
Seven years after being discovered in the trash, he is now a strong and joyful companion, relishing life with his family.

No longer does Kismet sleep among garbage. Instead, he enjoys the comfort of a soft bed beside Nikki, surrounded by toys he loves.
“He sleeps in the big bed with her. He’s so happy. He loves toys, and is now a healthy, robust dog. His eyes shine brightly, and he lights up every room he enters,” was the heartwarming update from the rescue team.
Once discarded with no hope for the future, Kismet’s transformation is a testament to the power of love and compassion.
