Dogs find joy and comfort when they are surrounded by their loved ones. Sadly, many dogs experience abandonment, leaving them devoid of the affection they need. Such was the case with a dog named Explorer, who was found tied to a crate and left alone in a park.
Explorer’s eyes reflected his sadness and confusion as he sat by himself, anxiously staring at the ground. Fortunately, Tiffany Maki, a former dog rescuer, noticed him as she was leaving the park with her own dogs. Heartbroken by his situation, she approached the distressed dog.
It was clear to Maki that Explorer was frightened, and his defensive barking was merely a sign of his distress. Maki knew she must help him. “As I would walk closer, he would bark and lunge at me to make me keep my distance. I knew no one else probably would have tried to grab him for fear of being bitten,” Maki explained to The Dodo.
Determined to earn Explorer’s trust, Maki stayed by his side, speaking soothingly to him until he allowed her to put a leash on him. Once he realized she was there to help, he was happy to be led to her home.
Once settled in, Explorer’s transformation was remarkable. He welcomed Maki’s affection, and hope and gratitude shone in his eyes. He proved to be a well-behaved dog who had been loved before, as he was already trained in various commands and housetrained. “After getting home, [he] was the SWEETEST dog and SO well trained,” Maki shared.
Maki reached out to Schnauzer Rescue of Texas and arranged for Explorer to be placed with them. After a night in her home, she took him to the rescue’s vet for his vaccinations. He was then moved to a foster home in Woodlands, Texas, where he received plenty of love and attention.
Explorer soon began his search for a permanent home. It wasn’t long before a loving family adopted him, eager to shower him with the affection he always deserved. Now, Explorer enjoys a safe and happy life with his new family, cherishing every moment of love he receives.
