There are stories that inspire hope and remind us of human kindness, and one such tale unfolded recently in Missouri. It involves a devoted community and a determined rescue team who came together to save a life in peril.
The adventure began when a concerned neighbor noticed a dog pacing on the roof of a deteriorating house for days.
In response to this distress call, Donna Lochmann, Chief Life Saving Officer from Stray Rescue of St. Louis, quickly organized a group of volunteers to investigate.
Once at the site, they were met with a daunting challenge: the house was in ruins, with an unstable stairwell that made traditional access impossible.
Not deterred, Donna used an extension ladder to reach the roof and search for the distressed animal. Amid the debris, she finally spotted the dog’s sad eyes watching her nervously.
With gentle coaxing, the dog edged towards Donna, seemingly recognizing the rescue was underway. True to his calm demeanor, the dog allowed Donna to place a leash around him, as though placing his trust in her hands.
Carefully, they guided the dog down the ladder to safety, where relief spread among the team as his paws touched solid ground.
The dog, named Epic in honor of his dramatic rescue, was examined by veterinarians at the SRSL facility. Astonishingly, despite the hazardous conditions he had endured, he was unharmed.
Epic promptly formed a close bond with his carers, showing gratitude that seemed to say, “I’m here to stay!”
His cheerful nature soon attracted a loving family eager to adopt him. Epic settled into his new home with ease, his joy evident in his ever-present smile.
“Epic has embarked on an epic life as an adopted family member! He’s hilarious, bounding around the yard like a gazelle,” shared the SRSL team on social media.
Now, Epic relishes his days filled with running, jumping, and enjoying walks with his family. Yet, his most cherished moments are spent snuggled up on the couch beside his new loved ones.
“Epic is enjoying life like never before—free from cold, loneliness, hunger, and fear. He is absolute perfection,” the team wrote.
Once a dog on the brink in a crumbling house, Epic now thrives in his safe and loving environment, where he’ll never be alone again.
