In late May, a heartwarming rescue mission unfolded after the Humane Society of Lebanon County (HSLC) in Pennsylvania received an urgent call about a dog trapped in a storm drain. Initially, the dog was feared dead, but as rescuers lifted the drain grate, there was a glimmer of life—a slight movement as the dog raised its head.
Responding promptly to the distress call, an HSLC volunteer and staff member rushed to the scene. The sight was heart-wrenching: a frail dog curled up, seemingly on the brink of death. The rescuers gently extracted the dog and hurried him to an emergency veterinarian for immediate care. Shortly after the rescue, they identified the dog as Buddy, a 15-year-old who had been missing for three weeks.
Back at the HSLC, efforts were made to reunite Buddy with his owner, although the team’s focus remained steadfast on Buddy’s urgent needs. For three days, Buddy received intensive, life-saving medical attention, and slowly, his condition began to stabilize. Although Buddy is on the mend, at his advanced age, he requires further medical visits, including ultrasounds, x-rays, and an appointment with an eye specialist.
Due to his age, Buddy cannot undergo sedation, making the search for a patient and loving foster home essential. The Humane Society pledges to cover all of Buddy’s medical treatments, along with providing his food and vitamins to the foster family.
Buddy is known to coexist well with cats and thrives in the company of calmer dogs, making him an excellent companion in the right environment.
In a world often overshadowed by negativity and sorrow, the Humane Society calls for compassion and support from the community to help Buddy. Their message resonates with hope: “The journey continues for Buddy. Let’s focus on kindness, support, and healing, and find Buddy the foster home he deserves.”
