When a local animal control department found a dog named Ladybird tied up near a public restroom, they discovered a note attached to her collar that read, “Be nice 2 dog – got stuck no car – be back soon – give my dog some water – be back in morning.”
The confusing message led them to believe that Ladybird had been abandoned, so they took her to the St. Charles Parish Animal Shelter.
However, the mystery was soon cleared up when Ladybird’s owner called the shelter the next day. He explained that he had ridden his bicycle to the park to retrieve Ladybird.
As the conversation unfolded, the shelter staff learned more about the owner’s hardships.
The man shared an emotional backstory about his life with Ladybird. He had rescued her when she was just a six-week-old puppy, and together they spent the next nine years traveling across the country in search of adventure.
Unfortunately, his fortunes took a turn for the worse, leaving him homeless and without a vehicle. In a difficult situation, he made the tough decision to leave Ladybird at the restroom while he sought assistance.
His plan was to move to North Carolina, where his family was ready to support him. However, he was unable to travel due to his current circumstances in Louisiana.
Concerned shelter staff could see the genuine bond between the man and his loyal companion, and they desired the best for Ladybird, especially in her later years.
After giving it some thought, the staff decided to help reunite the duo with the man’s family in North Carolina.
To their surprise and delight, various rescue organizations, such as “Turning Rescues into Pets,” “GreaterGood,” and “Wings Of Rescue,” joined forces to assist in their journey.
