In a suburban area of Southern California, an alert from a concerned resident to Logan’s Legacy, a dog rescue organization, recently led to the discovery of three abandoned puppies in need of immediate help.
Suzette Hall, who established Logan’s Legacy, was unable to respond personally but quickly mobilized her small team of dedicated volunteers to assist.
Upon arriving at the scene, Hall’s team observed the puppies exactly as described: huddled closely together on the sidewalk, appearing as if they were depending on each other.
Although the puppies appeared wary, they held their ground, seemingly waiting for their previous owners to come back for them. “They just sat on the corner and waited,” Hall explained to The Dodo. “They didn’t move because they were waiting for their family to come back.”
Information gathered from the neighbors revealed that the puppies had been left behind near Magic Johnson Park in Los Angeles, abandoned as their former owners drove away. Startled and confused, the dogs ran into the park, narrowly escaping several passing cars. “They just ran inside the park and huddled together,” Hall remarked. “So many cars almost hit them.”
For several days, the puppies anxiously awaited their owners’ return, holding on to a glimmer of hope. Fortunately, it was Hall’s team that eventually came to their rescue.
Initially spotted sitting on the sidewalk, the puppies had sought shade under a parked car as temperatures climbed. Despite the burning heat, they remained tightly knit. “It was hot that day, and there was a car parked in one of the spots,” Hall noted. “They went under the car, but they stayed all curled up together.”
Typically, stray dogs are captured using humane traps, but with these brave siblings, coaxing them with food was enough. “My rescuers put some food in their hands and coaxed them over,” Hall shared. The lone female among them immediately warmed to the rescuers, while her two brothers quickly followed suit.
Upon safely getting into the van, it became clear that the puppies had been neglected. “They were covered in ticks,” Hall recounted. “They were so matted, and they each had about 40 ticks on them or more.” However, even in discomfort, the dogs were relieved to be safe together. The rescuers took them in, and the pups clung close to one another.
The first priority became cleaning and grooming the puppies. With their matted fur shaved off and ticks removed, they felt an instant sense of relief. Yet, the highlight of their day was finding comfort together in a secure, warm environment.
Hall recognized that these pups shared a special connection beyond survival. Named Polly, Damien, and Barkley, these resilient siblings were placed into foster care, finally able to relax and heal from their past. Hall and her team are now focused on finding a permanent home willing to take all three dogs together. “It would be amazing if they could all be adopted together,” Hall expressed. “They’re so sweet.”
As they patiently wait for the perfect family, Polly, Damien, and Barkley remain inseparable. Their bond continues to strengthen every day, showcasing that love and loyalty can conquer even the harshest beginnings.
