There was once a beloved dog named Qwerty, whose unique condition called short spine syndrome left his owners feeling overwhelmed. In a heart-wrenching moment, they brought him to a local shelter and left him outside with a touching note.
As Qwerty patiently waited, shelter workers were taken by surprise when they found him. Next to him lay a simple but sincere note, clearly penned by a child, which read: “I love my dog. Please don’t hit him. It’s a boy.”
Understanding the urgency of Qwerty’s situation, the shelter quickly contacted Nikki from Roadogs Rescue, a California-based organization devoted to helping special needs dogs. Nikki instantly decided to welcome Qwerty into her care.
Normally, Roadogs places dogs with foster families, but Nikki took a different approach with Qwerty. She brought him home to better understand his condition and to bond with him directly.
Despite his distinct look, Qwerty was a cheerful and healthy pup. He showed no signs of illness and swiftly adapted to life among other dogs. Moments at the beach, walks, and playful games became part of his joyful routine with his new friends.
While Qwerty had limitations like not being able to jump on a couch or run for hours, he was happy with his life as it was. Nikki was confident that Qwerty would one day find a family that would cherish him.
It happened sooner than anyone anticipated. Within a few weeks, Qwerty’s perfect family came forward. A couple from Florida, Julie and Scott, saw Qwerty’s photos online and were immediately smitten.
They had previously cared for a dog named Cuda, who also had short spine syndrome, and they were astounded by how much Qwerty reminded them of Cuda. Their connection was undeniable, as they expressed on Instagram.
Though Cuda had passed away years prior, Julie and Scott were thrilled to have Qwerty join their family. Qwerty quickly adjusted to his new surroundings, earning a special place in the hearts of his new family and siblings.
With assurance, his new family vowed that Qwerty would never face abandonment again. They expressed gratitude to his previous owners, “He is ours now and forever. To his former family: He is safe. Thank you for leaving him at the shelter instead of somewhere remote. Your dog was very lucky to be rescued.”
Now, Qwerty is thriving, living his best life by making friends, playing with his siblings, and mingling effortlessly with cats and other dogs.
